About Matt...
Matt Miller served two terms as an Ashland County Commissioner before being named the new Business Administrator of the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Ashland. While serving as a county commissioner, Matt was twice elected president of the Northeast Ohio County Commissioner Association.
In 2008 after meeting with citizens all across Ashland, Medina, Stark and Wayne County, Matt decided to run for Congress in Ohio’s 16th District. Although Matt won three out of the four counties in the Republican Primary election, he ultimately came up a few votes shy of a victory.
As a county commissioner, Matt earned the reputation of being a leader who listens to the people he serves, and who is willing to stand-up for the principles in which he believes. Serving during one of the most challenging times in our state’s history, Matt continually worked to make Ashland County government a model of effectiveness while in many instances reducing government spending and resisting movements to increase local taxes. He has proven himself to be a strong leader in Northeast Ohio and a tireless advocate for the working families of Ashland, Medina, Stark and Wayne County.
Matt understands the tough competitive pressures facing our local businesses and workers. As a former chairman of the Ashland-Holmes-Wayne Regional Workforce Development CEO Board, Matt worked with local business and labor leaders to assist recently laid-off workers in finding new jobs. Matt believes job training and workforce development will continue to become even more critical as Northeast Ohio transitions to the new economy; meeting the challenges of the new global marketplace.
Matt has served on numerous boards and commissions, but he currently serves on the Ashland County Developmental Disabilities Board and the Board of Directors of Hospice of North Central Ohio. He was recently appointed to the North Central Ohio UCAN (Universities and College Access Network) Board, and has been active in chambers of commerce and economic development efforts all across the 16th Congressional District.
He is active chambers of commerce all across Northeast Ohio, and is a member of Ohio Farm Bureau and the Ashland County Township Association.
He was the Ashland County United Way Campaign chairman in 2002, and he is a former chairman of the Ashland County Council of Social Agencies and a past president of the Ashland County Family & Children First Council. He was also a member of the Samaritan Hospital Foundation Capital Campaign Committee.
Matt is a graduate of Ashland University where he was both a Presidential Scholar and an Ashbrook Scholar at the John M. Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs. He is a member of the Church of the Savior in Wooster where he has served as the vice president of the board of trustees.
He currently resides in Ashland with his wife, Melanie.
